Don’t ever say I never did anything nice for you…

Was anyone here in a situation where they were looking for the Hot Toys Dark Knight figure (in the new costume from TDK) and were crushed to learn the pre-order’s sold out at BBTS? That happened to me recently.

That was pretty crushing to see that it sold out at BBTS because the only other places you can go to find one is eBay or Action HQ (and Action HQ ships from Hong Kong if I recall correctly). eBay’s not too bad but you’re still faced with the same shitty problem that you’d have with Action HQ: Most of the sellers are from China or Japan.

As I’m sure the goody-two-shoes Adam West era Batman would say, “Never fear!” CornerStore Comics has the Hot Toys figures up for pre-order now.

It’s a pricey bit of crack but it’s soooo worth it.

Now, I know what you’re going to say. “You should know better than anyone that the prototypes usually look a million times better than the actual toys.”

While that is true, it doesn’t seem to be the case for the Hot Toys Dark Knight stuff. How do I know this? Well, Hot Toys is selling two different 12” Dark Knight figures, you see. They’re selling the figure with the new costume from the new movie (the one I just preordered) and they’re selling a Batman Figure with the original suit from Batman Begins. There are a couple of sellers at eBay who have the 12” Batman figure in the Begins costume on hand and they took pictures of the figure in the box and the figure actually looks almost EXACTLY like the prototype pics. The 12” Batman in the Begins costume also has the extra Bruce Wayne head and it looks EXACTLY as it does in the pics here. So if the Begins Batman looks just like the prototypes I have no doubt the Dark Knight suit Batman will as well. And even if it doesn’t, I have a feeling it will look pretty damn close, seeing as how the more high-end toys usually end up looking more like the prototypes than the retail store toys do.

But yeah, get on over to CornerStore Comics and pick yours up if you’ve been looking for the figure furiously and were frustrated by the lack of US choices to purchase the figure. And don’t say I didn’t do anything nice for ‘ya!

Redemption of Sorts (or) A Post I Meant to Write Five Days Ago…

So it’s been five days since the end of Comic Con for me. SDCC08 was the first SDCC I’ve been to but it’s not the first comic convention I’ve been to. I went to the Emerald City con a couple of months ago and had a great time there as well.

Overall the SDCC was pretty cool and I’d do it again. I think I’ll bring three suitcases though and just pay the fine so I’ll have an extra bag for all the plastic crack I’ll acquire. Cramming all my stuff into two suitcases really sucked and was not that fun of an experience.

So yeah, the comic con was pretty great overall, but there were still a couple of things here and there that I wasn’t thrilled with. I really didn’t like the rent-a-cop Marine volunteers who screwed me out of my Rose McGowan autograph and I didn’t like how Sideshow’s Comic Con exclusive was an “Online only” thing that you couldn’t just buy at the con (you had to preorder it online first and then pick it up at the con). Well, I couldn’t track down Rose McGowan after the whole autograph thing and ask her to sign my Charmed book but I did get some redemption of sorts for my failure to preorder Aayla Secura from Sideshow before the con. After I found out that Aayla Secura was a “you can’t just pick it up at the booth” kind of exclusive I was pissed off and jaded but I didn’t walk away empty handed because I was given some solid advice from a woman working the booth: “Come back here Sunday afternoon and you might be able to get one because there’s always people who are too late to pick up their preorders. We might be able to sell you one then.”

So I did that and…

Allow me to sing a song (though not as good as Bob Marley would sing it). A little…redemption song.

So I was super thrilled to get my Aayla Secura and it gave me the chance to redeem myself as a collector for being ignorant over the fact that AS was a “preorder and pick up” kind of figure, but this whole thing doesn’t redeem Sideshow Toys and their shitty policies in my eyes. If anything, this actually makes me respect them EVEN LESS than I did before. I mean, it’s bad enough to do the whole “preorder it before you pick it up so it will be an EXCLUSIVE exclusive,” but doing the whole “pick it up by Sunday at noon or we’ll give your shit away” thing just makes Sideshow seem even more like assholes to me. Fuck Sideshow, I say. After I get my Indy from them in October I’m done with them.
Er…anyway, SDCC 08 was pretty cool overall and I will be posting more pics of my swag and some of the neat stuff I saw there pretty soon. Until then…may the horrible preorder and pick up policies be with you always…

So Many Geeky Things to Write about…

And, as the lame expression goes, so little time.

So I moved into my new place. I said I’d have some photos of the new place and I usually do what I say I’m going to do so they’ll show up here eventually. Probably.

I also went to the Emerald City Comic Con this weekend and I felt that was worth blogging about here. This was my first ever comic convention but it was the second convention I’ve been to in my life (I went to a Star Trek Convention when I was in the fourth grade). Thankfully there weren’t as many freaky/creepy geek stereotypes there so I didn’t have to feel too weirded out (the full-on stereotypical “Comic Book Guy” kind of stereotypes just seriously freak me out for some reason and I’m really not kidding you there). The really cool thing about the convention was the fact that it gave me the opportunity to meet one of my heroes JMS (J. Michael Straczynski) and it gave me the chance to get a photo with Julie Benz (Darla from Buffy and Angel), one of my favorite actresses from the Buffyverse.

What time is it? It’s Halo time sucka!!!

I’m not like most X-Box owners out there. Why? I’ve never been a big Halo fan. I don’t hate the series but it’s just never really done anything for me. I guess it’s because I like my 1st person shooters to be more vicious and gory like Gears of War (the best FPS game ever in my opinion).

So I’ve never been a big fan of Halo but I have to say that I’ve always really enjoyed the visuals in the three games and I think Master Chief is just a really cool character.

I told myself that I would buy the Halo Edition 360 if I saw it because I really liked the dark green designs for the 360 case and I liked that it came with an HDMI port. So…long story short…I saw the 360 Halo Edition at Costco for $500 and I bought it. I feel a little jerkish for buying the Halo edition 360 (because I feel like I’m robbing some Halo diehard of getting the “upgrade”) but, then again, I am admitting to buying it just because I loathe the traditional 360 white design and I wanted an HDMI port so I should, at the very least, get some points for my honesty, right?

I have to say that the best part of finding this and buying this at Costco is that I only had to pay $144 for it. That’s right, it was $500 but I only had to pay $144. Why? Let’s just say I cashed in on a favor from a business associate of mine. I know that sounds shady but trust me, it was all legit.

At any rate, check out these pics (click on them to see them in a better resolution)

So I really love the new design for the 360. But you know what I love the most about the new 360?

The HDMI port. F**k yeah. I wish the original had one but it didn’t.

So…yeah. I’m really lovin’ the new 360 and the fact that I got it for $144. The only downside to all of this is that I’ll have to transfer everything from my old hard drive to the new one.

This bundle’s worth getting if you have the dough and you want a 360. Hell, this bundle’s worth it even if you own a 360 already. In the bundle you get the Halo Edition 360, the Halo edition controller, an extra “Todd McFarlane wireless Halo controller” that includes a bonus mini Master Chief figure, a Halo edition headset, the official strategy guide for the game, the special edition of the game (the $70 version) and a charge set for your wireless controller (that basically charges your controller so you never need batteries).

It’s an expensive piece of Video Crack (if you don’t have the connections anyway) but it’s really worth checking out.

The Masterpiece Ultra Magnus Review and Gallery are Finally Done!!!

So I was finally able to upload the last pictures for the Masterpiece Ultra Magnus review. Check it out here.

There are a lot of pictures in the gallery and the pictures take a little time to load so you might want to check this review out on a high-speed computer. (Don’t, in other words, look at this review on your Grandma’s dial-up connection).

It’s a great figure and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Ultra Magnus or his “White Optimus” paint scheme. MP UM is MUCH MUCH more than a simple repaint. He actually looks better than MP Optimus Prime if you ask me.

So…yeah. Check out the review and the gallery to get some more info on this great figure. You can also click on the pictures in this review to see them in a better resolution and size.

Fort (Brave) Max review is up

Just click here to check it out.

I’m kind of pissed off though because I, once again, didn’t get to post a couple of pictures that I wanted to post thanks to Yahoo Geocities sucking ass. Shit. I really need to get a new website provider. If you know of any decent websites that offer a pagebuilder (I suck at HTML) let me know.

Preview of Masterpiece Ultra Magnus Review

I fucking love this toy.

Hands down one of the best pieces of plastic crack I’ve bought in a while. I’d like to get into more detail but it’s late and I’ve already been nagged to go to bed. So yeah. Enjoy this pic and be sure to read the full and more detailed review when it’s (hopefully) completed this weekend. That is all. (If you click on the pictures you’ll get to see them in their full resolution).

Preview of Fortress Maximus (Brave Maximus) Review

So last night (I suppose I should say it was two nights ago since I’m writing this a little after midnight) was Holy Grail night for the Sean-Man. Why? My Brave Maximus (the 2001 Fortress Maximus reissue) was delivered by UPS so it was ready for me to check out when I came home from work.bmaxfiller.jpg

Fortress Maximus (Brave Maximus in Japan), as you may or may not know, is the most sought after G1 Transformer toy of all-time. He is the rarest and most expensive figure out there. He’s not the most popular Transformers character but his toy is worth far more than the greats like Optimus Prime or Megatron. If you’re lucky you could probably find a good G1 Optimus Prime or G1 Megatron for $150 (or less) on eBay. Fortress Maximus though? Sellers charge over $1,000 even if he’s in shitty condition and missing parts. He is the tallest Transformer (he’s 22” in height) and he was the most expensive figure until Masterpiece Prime and Ultimate Bumblebee were released (He was $89.99 in 1987 so that’s like buying a $200 Transformer now).

Fortress Maximus made his first and only appearance in The Rebirth Part 3, the final episode of the American G1 series. He was also featured in The Headmasters, a Japanese exclusive Transformers cartoon a year later. He made his way back to American screens in the Transformers series Robots in Disguise. He had a new color scheme (Blue, black, and red as opposed to his grey and blue G1 colors) and a slightly different backstory. To celebrate the return of the character, Takara (the company that makes the Transformers toys in Japan that Hasbro retools to an extent for US release) brought out a reissue of the original toy. The reissue was identical to the original figure and it was made from the same mold but the color scheme was different and it didn’t come with some of the weapons the original Fort Max had. This reissue, unfortunately, did not come to the states along with the other RID figures so it was considered a “Japan exclusive.”

Brave Max, like Fort Max before him, is becoming quite rare and his price is really escalating on eBay. After losing out on a chance to buy Fortress Maximus at a decent price I caved in and bought Brave Max here. I was put off by the red, blue and black reissue colors initially but I have to say they’re really growing on me now. I really love this toy and I’m going to give it a longer and more detailed review sometime this weekend hopefully so be on the lookout for that.

So the Ultimate Bumblebee review is up…

So the more detailed Ultimate Bumblebee review is up, as promised. You can read it by clicking on this link. There are a hell of a lot of pictures in the review though so you might want to make sure you’re viewing this shit on a high speed connection and not your grandma’s dial-up.lightsfiller.jpg

Masterpiece Megatron Review

So I thought I would start posting some links to some reviews I’ve done over the summer, starting with Masterpiece Megatron here. You can find my full review as well as some more pictures of “Megs” here. Overall it’s a really good toy but it has some pretty incredible flaws for the price you’ll pay to get your hands on this baby ($200+ on some sites).
